Wagner Park

Wagner Park has long been known in the city as “Pretty Park” and rightfully so. In 1944, a woman by the name of Ottilie Wagner Hosser granted the entire city block where her house stood to the city to be used as a park. She said she wanted a park of “Peace and Love” because the city already had enough parks that were military-oriented. It was modeled after a small park in Paris across form the League of Nations that she loved to visit.

Cedar Swamp Preserve

The Cedar Swamp Preserve is a natural sanctuary showcasing the unique ecosystems of New Hampshire. Rock Rimmon Park

Rock Rimmon Park is named for a small cliff-faced hill located within the park itself. The top of the hill, reached by a very easy path around the cliff, presents a unique view over the city from very close. This path begins on the far left side of the park, past the tennis courts. An even shorter but very steep path begins straight ahead from the parking area. Once on top, you are rewarded for very little effort with a close-up over the city. An opening in the trees on the west side reveals the Uncanoonuc Mountains.

Gill Stadium

The venue, which mainly hosts amateur baseball and football contests, currently has a capacity of 3,700. Origins and early history Built in 1913 at a cost of more than $30,000, the grandstand for what originally was known as Textile Field is one of the early concrete-and-steel stadiums in the United States outside of major cities. Only Harvard Stadium in Allston, Massachusetts (1903), Rickwood Field in Birmingham, Alabama (1910), and Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts (1912), are known to be older surviving examples of concrete-and-steel stadiums in the United States. The Amoskeag Textile Club, which was funded by and whose members were employees of the Amoskeag Manufacturing Company, constructed the grandstand.
