Rex Theatre

The Rex Theatre represents a blend of all that makes Manchester the vibrant community it is today. Located on the corner of Amherst Street and Nutfield Lane, it is a uniquely reimagined and intimate venue for plays, concerts, comedy showcases, and community events.

Originally constructed in the mid-1800s, the building served as Manchester’s printing press amid the city’s rapid 19th-century growth. In late 1939, it was converted into an artistic venue and renamed the Rex Theatre – a nod to the regal spirit of the Queen City.

The Rex has undergone a number of transformations over its 90-year lifespan. From the 1940s to the 1980s it was the town’s premier movie theater – a popular destination for Manchester residents of all ages. In the 1980s, it was converted into a popular nightclub, amassing great success until a devastating fire rendered it out of commission.

Opened in 2019 after a masterful restoration campaign, the current incarnation of the Rex Theatre pays homage to its history by re-adopting the name it was given at its inception. As the Palace Theatre’s fourth venue, the Rex offers a number of events each month in an intimate and elegant setting.

Experience the welcoming, exciting and rich Manchester spirit at any one of the Rex Theatre’s events.
